Surgical Approach to the Arthritic Hip

  1. Identify surgical indications for inflammatory arthritis and osteoarthritis of the hip, including any clinical and imaging considerations.
  2. Identify hip pathologies such as adult onset avascular necrosis, developmental dysplasia of the hip, Legg-Perthes, slipped capital femoral epiphysis that can lead to surgical intervention.
  3. Understand the various surgical approaches to total hip replacement, including advantages and disadvantages of each.
  4. Understand, and be able to educate patients regarding, risks and benefits of total hip replacement.
